[Game story] – My First MMORPG’s Lore Snapshot

I’ve been dreaming of making my own MMORPG for years… and I’ve finally started.
Here’s the first chunk of lore I’ve been working on. I’d love your honest thoughts—because right now, I’m building this in public and figuring it out as I go.

The Setup

For centuries, the Kingdom of Eldrenhart has been one of the most prosperous realms on the continent.
Life was good… at least on the surface. Beneath that prosperity, old grudges and rivalries never really went away.

Then the King died—suddenly, without naming an heir.
And that’s when everything broke.

Multiple factions rose up, each claiming they had the right vision for the kingdom’s future:

  • The Royal Knights’ Order – Loyal to tradition and the old ways… but maybe blind to their flaws.

  • Veteran Royals – Once respected members of the royal bloodline, now allied with the Black Arts to seize power.

  • The Black Arts Order – Forbidden magic, dark bargains, and a willingness to sacrifice anything to win.

The war isn’t “good vs evil.” Everyone thinks they’re the hero, and maybe none of them are.

The Player’s Role

You start as a fresh recruit in the Royal Knights’ ranks.
But in a world where loyalty, ambition, and power constantly clash, who you fight for might change over time. Your choices could earn you respect… or make you enemies in every camp.

Why I’m Going With This Direction

I wanted a story big enough to fuel large-scale PvP and faction warfare, but contained enough that it’s still one kingdom—you’re fighting neighbors, not faceless monsters from another dimension.
Also, I love morally gray worlds. If you join the Royal Knights, are you protecting justice—or defending a dying legacy? If you side with the Black Arts, are you pure evil—or just doing what’s necessary?

Gameplay Impact

  • Quests – Branching choices, with NPCs remembering what you’ve done.

  • PvP – Clear faction divides for epic battles.

  • Progression – Story decisions unlock (or block) missions, allies, and rewards.

I’d love feedback

  • Would you enjoy a world where every side is “gray”? Or do you prefer a clear good vs evil?

  • If you had to pick a faction right now, which would it be?

  • Anything you’d add or change to make the setup stronger?

If this sounds interesting, I’ll share early concept art, maps, and gameplay prototypes as I build.
This is my first MMORPG—wish me luck.
